Are NBR Extensions for you?

So it has been a week since my training and I have pondered on how to do this post. I want to give the best advice I can to everyone, with the hopes that it makes you feel comfortable to ask me more question and gain interest in NBR. Natural Beaded Row is an up and coming technique that Danielle White created a few years back and is now offering her training to other stylist! Yay for me...and you!
As much as I wish I could say extensions are for everyone, I can't. I wish they were but some people just would not like them. Most people will love them. I am here to give you some pros and cons of extensions, in no specific order.

NBR Extensions are not the cure to all your hair problems.
NBR Extensions could be the cure to all your hair problems!

If you want fuller, thicker, longer, style holding hair NBR could be for you. The best most amazing length to make this look as natural as possible is to have shoulder/collar bone length hair. Keeping in mind and being realistic about your desired over all length. However NBR can be used to give your bob more volume and thickness. NBR can be used to give the front of your hair longer thicker A line look as you grow your hair out. Please keep that in mind as you read on.

I think that people generally think extension are a great idea. And then they get the cost of them and run the other way. Or they get them and they constantly pick at them, and hate having something in their hair all the time. Or they want to just wake up and look like they have Victoria Secret hair. Not gonna happen. Yes extensions can be expensive, I am trying my hardest to keep that cost as low as possible for you considering where we live I can not be charging $1200 for extensions and color (yes that is the real price in Laguna Beach). But it is a specialty service that I paid a lot of money to learn how to do and I will take pride in the fact that as of right now I am the only one certified in Oregon to do these fancy amazing extensions. I can only imagine that soon other salons in the area will be jumping on this awesome service.

The hair is all real! You can color it and style it like it is your own. You can not lighten it I have tried many many times. It just won't work. But they come in very light colors:) The hair has to be attached to your hair some how. So there will always be something in your hair, but please do not pick at it. I struggle with this my self. NBR is only attached to your natural hair in a few places to there is the least amount of damage to your hair as possible. However when you take them out to tighten them you will have some hair loss. NOT from damage but from the fact that your hair has been in a crimped bead for six weeks and hasn't been able to shed off naturally. There is 11 wefts of hair on two separate tracks on my head. That is A LOT of extra hair. My hair is very very heavy. If you get NBR your hair will be heavier, thicker. More hair to brush, wash, and style. You will need more time in the morning to get ready! When I wake up after my nighttime wash my natural hair is in it's normal wild mane status and my NBR hair is beautifully straight, it is pretty funny actually. Yes they do make curly hair but the curly hair tends to tangle and mat very very easily so it is not recommended to go with the curly curly look. There is maintenance with extensions too, every 6 to 8 weeks basically the life of your color. The wefts get lose with with growth of your hair so they need to be tightened. The wefts also shed like natural hair does so eventually the wefts need to be replaced slowly over time or twice a year if you keep them in year round. The tracks are fairly tight at first but never meant to hurt just be like a snug pony tail. You can wear your NBR straight or with a curl to it whichever you wish. If you have naturally oily hair they are great because they absorb the oils since they don't have any! If you are getting NBR for length you will need to put oil or serum on the ends too keep them looking natural and keep them from getting tangled. You DO need to style them. They will not just magically look like all the amazing photos on their own. They blend and look more natural when you style them. You can wear them up in a pony tail, it is recommended to wait a few days till the track loosens a little so there is no extra pulling on you natural hair. As the days go on with them in your hair they blend better and better everyday. You get used to the extra thickness and length and it starts to really just feel like your hair! You can go about your normal every day life with better hair. You can wash every day, I don't personally because I naturally have a lot of hair and it takes me forever to do my hair and I am lazy. So I go three days with out washing it, even without NBR I go three days. The average person has one full track and a mini track equaling eight wefts of hair. You can have more if needed or wanted as long as I feel it won't be too much on your natural hair. To really have the best of the best for blending, it is highly recommended you have your color service done at the same time or right before your extension service.

So I think I have given you all the basic info on these amazing NBR extensions. I promise you, you will LOVE them.
I suppose now you would like to know how much these beauties are going to cost you....
all of these prices are an average/estimate so you can have a general idea. Until you contact me via email and or text message we then schedule a consult then you will get your definite price.

NBR with Tabbitha at Rustic Salon prices
$150 for a full track. Up to seven wefts of hair.
$75 for a mini or partial track. Up to three wefts of hair.
This does not include hair.

The cost of hair varies depending on the length of hair ordered. $200 deposit at booking, goes towards your total.
$30 per weft.
($240) Average service is eight wefts

So your initial first appointment on average would be $465.

Extension 30,000 feet in the air!

30,000 feet in the air! Just a quick note as I have been so busy the last few days. I am crunching numbers and making plans so that I can offer this amazing new service to you all and it be practical and affordable. Obviously I am in this field to make people happy first and make money second.  I.love my career through thick and thin. But it is my means to.feed my children.  I would have never ventured into the extension world if I did not have plans for you to get them love them and afford them. I have never forgotten where we live and that we are not Cali or even Portland for that matter. You are my people. I want to share my passion with you and you are going to love it. I will have a referral program so for those of you want extension and want to keep them, the more you share, the clients you send me the less you pay. So keep that in mind as I collect all the info, prices all the questions and answers and soon so soon this service will be on the menu! Please keep in mind loves...extensions are not for everyone. They are expensive (manageable) they require care and gentle hands only if you want to keep your natural hair:) It takes a few days to get used to them. They are tight so they stay and last as long as we can get them to. They are not perfect nor am I so this will take me getting used to the technique aspect of it. It's like riding a bike, I got it, I just need practice.  Soon I'll be doing back flips and landing!

#TabTip Ask, but you may not always receive.

So today's TabTip is about asking all the right question and giving all the truthful answers. This is my secret to being a great stylist. I ask A TON of questions. When you sit in my chair I start with the usual Hi how are you? What are we doing today? But I don't stop there. I pry. I am trying to get to know you if you are new to my chair but even if you are returning guest I still pry. Not the kind of pry that drives you crazy but the kind you are going to think "what in the world how is this info going to help for to cut my hair"? I need any and all info! The reason you ask....because the more I know about you the better style cut color and hopefully soon extensions I can give you. You are my walking talking advertisement. If you don't look great with the services I provide for you then that make me look bad. So in a round about all honesty way, me getting to know you and your life benefits you and ME! Wanting JLo's new color and style with 3 kids a full time job and an hour total to get ready in the morning is just unrealistic. I timed my hair style today and it took me 45 minutes start to finish. Mind you I did do a full blow out round brush and all but if you want the JLo look you have to style it like that every day. And I don't even want to do that much to my hair every day.  So when you ask for a style that I know you can't continue on your own..I will tell you no. Or an all over platinum bleach on your dark brown hair and I know you won't be back for 4 months. I will tell you no. Sounds harsh but I want you to be happy with your hair when I am unavailable to do it for you. I don't want the style to only look good the day of your appointment. I want it to look good all the time. I want your color to be fresh and platinum at your roots every 4 to 6 weeks.

Being completely honest with your stylist is huge. Give them a general idea of how often you want to come in to keep your new color. Are you a every six weeks no matter what or are you a every six months when someone gets me a gift certificate and my in laws will watch the baby? (Thank goodness the grown out look is so popular right now, it's perfect got busy moms!) Whatever the case may be being, honesty will get you a style you can maintain and love every day not just the day you leave the chair. Knowing that you can maintain your new color and style it your self makes us stylist happy campers. Knowing our work is out there walking around proudly makes us good and honest business people.

The hardest decision I have ever made Rustic Salon.

Good Morning!
So this mornings post comes straight from a conversation I had with The Handy Man who by the way thinks he needs a better name! Rude. Saturday we had the blessing of me sleeping in till 7am! THM went hunting and the littles were camping with Papa across the river. Needless to say when I woke I was bored. So I started making plans for an adventure as soon as I could get my hands on my littles agian.
Off to the Rollof Farms for pumpkin picking. THM and I like to solve all the worlds and our own problems as we make our road trips. While the littles are snuggled fast asleep in the back of the pick up. We discussed the last year of our lives. It's been a big one. We are past the one year of buying the 336 building and doing some serious remodel up stairs and the we are now approaching the one year mark of me making the biggest decision ever!! Branching out, being on my own, starting my own business and brand.
I can honestly say that having my own studio was ever in my dreams. I just never thought I could do it on my own. Work by my self for my self. It was a hard hard choice that I battled with and prayed a lot about! I don't think I have prayed that much about one thing since the littles were admitted into the NICU. I will explain why this was such a battle.
You see I have worked in three salons my entire career up until almost a year ago. The first one right out of beauty school was just a bad location for a just out of beauty school girl. Cute place and tons of potential, just wasn't right for me. Second place was a lot of fun! Great group of gals, I was blessed with the opportunity to take over for a gal who was leaving so I was given a small clientele. Some of which I still have! The next place well when I found it, I thought I had found my home. It was tiny. Just a little two seater. I met the gal from a friend of a friend only to find out she was actually married to a friend an upper class man I went to high school with years ago. So we hit it off just right. Kindred spirits we called our selves soul sisters. Before long we were finishing each others sentences raising our babes together spending all out our extra time together. It was bliss. I love her. I truly love her. Her family. Her choices. I just love her. We had many many great years together growing as friends co workers, sisters. As the years went on she decided to move to a larger space and I was right there with her. A few years later a better building came about and she took me to see it and it was THE place huge. Beautiful, warm, just perfect. So that was my home away from home for a few years along side my friend and sister. Somewhere along the lines I started wanting more. Not sure what more I wanted I just wanted more. So I started working a lot. Started getting better at what I wanted my craft to be. You Tube became my best friend. Instagram I stalked people and small salons. Stylist who really branched out I wanted to be them. I wanted to go where they go. I wanted more. All along I was praying for answers, for a sign to show me what more I wanted. We came home from a family vacation and one of THM business associates approached us with a grand opportunity. So 336 S Main Ave became ours. And while pondering all our opportunities for the downstairs commercial unit, THM asked me a profound question. "What if the more you are praying about is your own Salon"? And in that moment my sign, my prayers were answered. So I was expecting this great answer the sky to open up and bam there it is. But no, it was just a question brought up from the man who knows me best. He explained to me he would build me whatever it was I wanted. I could have my own. Exactly how I wanted it. right down to the wall color. It was a huge decision to make, because having my own sounds all great and amazing; until you realize to have your own your more you leave your friend your sister your other other half.
You see where this was the hardest choice I have ever made...To have my more I had to leave my best friend. I will tell you this, I almost backed out. I almost told my self it wasn't worth it. My more wasn't worth me losing my best friend. Now it's not like I was kicking her to the curb and we were now arch enemies. I was just the moment when you spread your wings and fly leaving everyone behind underneath you for a little while. I know in my heart we will find our friendship again someday. It may not ever be what it was but I know we are meant to be together just as much as I know THM and I are meant for each other. I can see where it would feel and look like I was double crossing or moving on because I wasn't happy or trying to be bigger and better than her. I'm not. I would never ever do that, she means way to much to me. I still love her. I was happy with my job. I loved where I worked. It was just time for me to be on my own. For me to run my own show, succeed or fail on my own. Not that long ago she took this same brave step because she knew it was were she was supposed to be. And I am so proud of her for that, for the salon she has built. The salon she puts her love and blessings into. One day I hope to be just as successful as she is. For now I will continue on my more path. Becoming a great business woman. Amazing hair stylist. Color expert. Who knows what else! My more can take me places I never knew I wanted.
Rustic Salon is my more. It is my new dream. It is my happy place. My slice of Heaven. My canvas. My Life! Fail or succeed I know that my friend will be there always. Rustic may have been my biggest hardest decision I have even made. Walking in the doors of my first real home of Salon Boheme was the the easiest best decision I ever made.

Welcome everyone!

So this morning my friend and client helped me finish up the final touches on my website and got me going on this blog! I can not tell you how excited I am to have this all up and running. I have been in the hair industry for 10 years now and just this morning while sipping a cup a joe a our local Starbucks we pushed publish and I felt like more than just a hair stylist. I felt like a business woman! I know I have been a business woman all this time but for some reason it just really hit home. If I was a crier I probably would of cried. I have so much that I want to be able to share with the word my talents my ideas my dreams my short comings all of it. And now I feel like I can. I can still reach everyone with Facebook and Instagram but now I can have the professional side of the web world. The blog spot to spill all the info I have running through my head. And also expand on my TabTips. I hope you all get the chance to check out the website and be patient with my as I learn the ins and outs of this techy world. More photos to come. A product page so you can really see what I have and what it will cost you before you even step in the door.

I hope to post a few times a week. I am a momma, landlord, house wife and stylist so the post may be few and then one week an abundance. Until then enjoy what I have worked on and am so very proud of.
